  9. Before I invest in a swiftlink or brave an electronics project (to build the
  10. datapump), I'd like some feedback about these modems:

  12. Sent to me (after I responded to an ad for a modem for sale):
  13. > I have one that I am trying to sell (I have upgraded to 28.8).  I actually
  14. > have two: a Hayes 14.4 fax/modem and a Practical Peripherals 14.4 fax/modem.
  15. > Both are error correcting and have data compression.

  17. Are either of these good modems? (One's hayes, so I'd assume it's good- but
  18. sometimes clones are better than the originals)

  20. What questions should I ask?
  21. Should I check compatibility first? (this would be tough without a swiftlink)

  23. The reason why I'm so cautious is because I have a 2400bps modem that won't
  24. cooperate with either my computer, my software, or the phone lines (I have to
  25. use my old 1200bps).
